The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction will hire about 200 additional officers throughout Ohio. The department says it's using money saved through an ongoing hiring freeze and by limiting overtime. The state stopped hiring officers after a state employees' union went to court to halt the planned closing of Lima Correctional Institution. The department says it can no longer delay filling important staff vacancies while the courts address the Lima closing. Governor Taft wants to close the prison to save about 25 million dollars a year. |
