| Accident Kills CO; Juvenile Inmate |

A fatality accident on U.S. Highway 83 in Kansas left a Seward County corrections officer and an inmate dead Friday afternoon, according to recently released reports. While driving a 1989 Kenworth gravel truck, Brandon Michael Rogers, 28, was facing southbound on Highway 83 and Rogers' vehicle was struck in the back by a 2004 Ford Freestar driven by Cory Allen Ricks, 33, of the Seward County Sheriff's Department after Ricks failed to stop. Ricks was transporting a juvenile inmate, Arielle M. Eikenberry, to Liberal at the time, according to Seward County Sheriff Bill McBryde. Ricks and Eikenberry were transported to Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal after they were pronounced dead, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol. Rogers sustained no injuries in the accident. Seat belts were equipped and in use in both vehicles. |
