A Johnson County Jail inmate allegedly sent another Iowa inmate to the hospital with head injuries after a jailhouse assault last week. Aaron James Eyman, 22, has been charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury for the Jan. 17 incident.

According to the sheriff's department, the jail's camera system recorded Eyman removing his sandals and socks in the dayroom and watching for another inmate to exit the shower at 6:08 p.m. When the victim did leave the shower, Eyman was seen lunging toward him with clenched fists and making contact with the victim.

The victim was taken to University Hospitals for ear and head injuries, Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said. The injuries were not serious and did not require the victim to be admitted to the hospital, he said. Pulkrabek did not know if the assault was witnessed live on camera or was viewed on a recording afterward.

Assault with intent to inflict serious injury is an aggravated misdemeanor and carries a maximum of two years in prison and a fine of at least $500 but no more than $5,000.
