| Two Trusties Accused of Rape |

Louisiana police are investigating an alleged rape inside Rayne Jail, following a female inmate's accusation that two male trusties raped her. Police Chief George Melancon says the men, both in their 30s, allegedly raped the victim on January 22nd. The victim reported the incident the following day. Melancon says the men claim the sex was consensual. He says the men did not break into her cell and that the sex took place through the bars of the cell. Melancon says there were four officers on duty and a total of 10 inmates in the facility when the incident occurred. The victim was the only female. The chief also says the surveillance cameras inside the jail have not worked since the hurricanes. Melancon says rape charges are pending. |
