A mentally ill Florida inmate climbed a guard booth and jumped onto a razor-wire fence at a West Miami-Dade jail last week, authorities said. The man, Anthony Coscia, was taken to a local hosptial for his cuts.
He was outside in the outside courtyard at the Metro West Detention Center when he began yelling and acting erratically, said Janelle Hall, a corrections spokeswoman.
Officers quickly subdued the inmate, who was being housed in the jail's psychiatric ward, she said. The case is not be treated as an escape attempt because of his mentally unstable condition.
The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department has come under intense scrutiny because of two high-profile escapes in recent months.
