Animal Shelter Supervisor Accused of Rape

Published: 01/30/2006

A 53-year-old California animal shelter supervisor was in custody last week for allegedly having sex with four female offenders sentenced to work there, officials said. Frank Martin Bojorquez of Orange was arrested for investigation of sexual battery and having sex with a detainee, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
The women were assigned to work at the kennel as part of a program for people convicted of nonviolent crimes. Participants can earn the equivalent of one day off their jail sentence for every 10 hours worked, Amormino said.
Bojorquez has worked for the county for 12 years and had the authority to file reports on detainees that could lead to their incarceration at the Orange County Jail, Amormino said. The women told authorities they felt coerced to have sex out of fear they would be sent back to jail.
One woman who knew about the allegations had refused to return to work at the shelter but didn't say why, Amormino said. She was re-arrested and returned to jail.
Investigators found the four alleged victims after receiving a tip in December that Bojorquez was allegedly having sex at the shelter with the female detainees working there, Amormino said.
Bojorquez, who was being held on $150,000 bail, was scheduled to be arraigned this week in Santa Ana, Amormino said.
