Three Inmates Wounded During Shooting
By The Chicago Tribune

Three men being held in Illinois' Cook County Jail were shot Wednesday night in a quarrel in a cell they shared in the maximum-security wing.
Officers recovered a .38-caliber revolver from the cell, said Bill Cunningham, a spokesman for the Cook County sheriff's police. Cunningham said police did not know how the gun got into the jail or what touched off the shooting.

"Nobody was injured seriously, despite being shot at close range," said Cunningham. One man suffered a graze wound to the elbow, another was shot in the upper calf and the third was shot in the left thigh.

One man had been convicted of unlawful use of a weapon and was awaiting sentencing; the second man was being held on kidnapping and armed-robbery charges; the third man was being held on a first-degree murder charge.
