An inmate died after a fight Sunday at a Florida state prison near Clermont, an official with the Florida Department of Corrections said.

Miguel Griffin, 37, died after the fight at Lake Correctional Institution, an official with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said. The facility holds about 1,100 inmates.

Robby Cunningham, a Corrections Department spokesman, said that an altercation involving inmates took place some time in the early afternoon. He didn't know how many people were involved or release how the inmate was hurt. Griffin was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His convictions included drug crimes, theft and burglary.

The FDLE is investigating, Cunningham said.
