Three federal prison officers in California and an ex-officer, who is currently an immigration agent, have been arrested for allegedly accepting thousands of dollars in cash bribes for providing cell phones and cigarettes to inmates. All four officers were indicted by a Los Angeles federal grand jury for allegedly accepting bribes while working as officers at the downtown Metropolitan Detention Center. Juan Cortes, Anthony Robuffo, Richard Campos and Juan Nieto were expected to make initial court appearances last week. The four are accused of accepting anywhere from $1,000 to $6,000 in bribes. If convicted, Cortes and Robuffo face up to 31 years in prison, Campos 15 and a-half years and Nieto 15 years behind bars. |
