Inmates Continue to Help With Rita Cleanup
By KWTX News

Some inmates from the Larry Gist State Jail are keeping busy helping clean up southeast Texas following Hurricane Rita. Warden Dawn Williamson says the calls keep coming in from people wanting inmates to help.
So far inmates have helped clean up areas of Port Arthur, Nederland and Sabine Pass.
The prisoners also will soon be helping in Orange and Evergreen Cemetery in Beaumont. Rita slammed southeast Texas in late September, just weeks after Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf coast. Orange city manager Shawn Oubre says two crews of inmates will begin working in March. Oubre also told the Beaumont Enterprise he hopes to have the inmates clean some private properties, demolish homes and clear debris from drainage ditches.
