Indiana officials have moved a man convicted of rape to a different lockup while police investigate whether officers at the Lake County Jail beat him. Officials moved Michael McGill, 21, to the Porter County Jail, said Lake County Jail Warden Caren Jones. A jail officer has been suspended pending an investigation, said John Kopack, an attorney representing the Lake County Sheriff's Department. He did not identify the officer or say what he is alleged to have done. McGill was awaiting transfer to a state prison to serve a 27-year sentence for his conviction on rape and criminally deviant behavior charges in attacks on a 16-year-old girl and a 52-year-old woman. Officials would not release any more information about the transfer or the alleged incident. |
