| Eight Deputies Placed on Leave |

Washington State's Spokane County Sheriff's Office is waiting on autopsy results to determine if the injuries that caused an inmate's death happened before he was arrested or while he was in the jail. Benites Sichiro, 39, was arrested for misdemeanor warrants. He was also a suspect in a sexual assault case, and just before he was arrested he was assaulted by a friend of the alleged victim. Sichiro passed a medical screening at the jail, and then later showed signs of alcohol withdrawal, according to investigators. When deputies moved him to new cell for closer observation he fought with them. Deputies say they tasered Sichiro on three separate occasions. He was placed in a restraint chair and went unconscious. Sichiro was taken to an area and died after surgery. Eight deputies have been placed on administrative leave, as the investigation is on-going. |
