Race-related rioting spread to California's Correctional Training Facility in Soledad on Tuesday afternoon when fighting broke out between 300 and 400 Latino, black and white inmates. Four inmates were transported to outside hospitals for treatment, including at least one inmate by air ambulance. The extent of the injuries was not known Tuesday night, said Dan Pherigo, the facility's public information officer. The riot occurred in the B yard of the North Facility, which houses approximately 1,400 inmates. The incident was contained by corrections staff, who sustained no injuries, Pherigo said in a press release. The facility was on lockdown late Tuesday pending an investigation. About 400 inmates were segregated in Los Angeles County jails after race-related rioting last weekend. |
