Two more Illinois men have been charged in connection with the smuggling of a handgun into the Cook County Jail, as investigators continued to interview inmates and jail officers about the shooting last week of three inmates in a maximum-security division.

Isiah Sherman, 20, was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution and ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail by Criminal Court Judge Raymond Myles. William Stanback, 26, of the 5000 block of South Indiana Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of $55,000 bail on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Three inmates in a maximum-security division received minor injuries when they apparently allowed themselves to be shot in their cell on Feb. 1. Cook County sheriff's police have said the shooting was part of a plot by the inmates to file a lawsuit against the county.

Prosecutors said Sherman and Stanback were involved in moving the handgun, which eventually was smuggled into the jail by 21-year-old Randi White. White allegedly hid the gun in her underwear and managed to get past metal detectors as she arrived to visit inmate Gregory Sherman, Isiah Sherman's brother. White was then able to pass the gun to the inmate, investigators said. Sources said charges against the inmates themselves were not expected for several days.
