An Alabama man serving time for a 1999 robbery in Morgan County has been recently charged in the murder of his mother, which took place six years ago. Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Henry Roger Jones Jr., 35, is accused of killing Bonnie Parker Jones, 53, in her home during a robbery. Authorities said Jones told them he found his mother's body after 3 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2000. He lived with his sister in a manufactured home next door to his mother's residence. The victim was shot in the head and back. Rushing said the indictment was returned during the January 2006 grand jury session. He said Jones, who is incarcerated at Limestone County Correctional Facility in Capshaw, was served with two arrest warrants last week charging him with capital murder and first-degree burglary. Jones has been in prison serving a 25-year sentence since May 2000, when he pleaded guilty in the Morgan County robbery case. Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said Jones had been a suspect during the course of the investigation. "There are a lot of elements to this case and as it continues on there will be information that will come out to support this arrest," Plott said. |
