The death of a Pike County, Ky.,inmate who collapsed in his jail cell Dec. 2 was determined to be from natural causes, officials say.
No further details about the specific cause of death for Randall G. Tackett, 34, of Virgie, were released by Coroner Russell Roberts.
At the time, jail officials said Tackett appeared fine when guards brought him his dinner that night. But when jail employees returned about 15 minutes later to pick up Tackett's dinner tray, they said they found him laying on the floor.
Jail employees called 911, and Tackett was taken to Pikeville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said Tackett was in solitary confinement, and did not have contact with other inmates at the time of his death.
Jail officials also said Tackett was being watched for not eating his meals on several occasions.
Tackett was facing sodomy charges. Kentucky State Police said in an arrest warrant that he had repeatedly had oral sex with a young child.
