A former North Carolina death row inmate faces new legal trouble. The State Burau of Investigation is investigating Alan Gell for statutory rape. According to warrants, investigators searched Gell's home in Bertie County for computers and letters. A 16-year-old girl alleged Gell may be the father of her unborn child. Gell was sentenced to die for the 1995 homicide of a Bertie County man. He was later granted a new trial in 2002 and was eventually acquitted and released from prison. |
