| County CO's Warn of Strike |

Oregon community corrections workers notified Washington County leaders Tuesday that they will strike March 6 unless the county meets their demands. Union members, who have been negotiating with the county for more than a year, want the cost-of-living adjustment they were granted in January to be retroactive to July 1, 2005, when other county workers received the added pay. And they want a promise of future increases that would even their pay with that of county corrections officers. County leaders have refused to budge on both issues. They say they have taken a firm stance in recent years against retroactive pay for workers unless the county is at fault for a delay in contract negotiations. County leaders also argue that they shouldn't pay community corrections specialists what they pay corrections officers or probation and parole officers because they perform different functions. On Tuesday, Peter Dan, a community corrections specialist, told the Washington County Board of Commissioners that supervisors have been telling workers that they will lose their jobs if they strike. Threats aside, Dan said workers are unhappy with the stalled contract negotiations. |
