Seven Illinois inmates were charged Thursday in an escape earlier this month from the Cook County Jail that has led to charges against an officer accused of aiding the jailbreak, authorities said. Six of the inmates escaped around midnight Saturday, Feb. 11. The seventh, Patrell Doss, is charged with aiding an escape and attempted escape, but never left the jail, said Tom Stanton, a spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office. Police captured Arnold Joyner, 43, and David Earnest, 38 about six hours after the escape. A third inmate, Michael McIntosh, 30, was arrested on Chicago's South Side that Sunday evening. The other three inmates were arrested after fleeing to an apartment in suburban Cicero. Francisco Romero, 23, surrendered around midnight Sunday. The last two-- Eric Bernard, 22, and Tyrone Everhart, 28, -- surrendered just hours later. All six men were charged Thursday with escape, aggravated arson, aggravated battery and possession of contraband in a penal institution. They were scheduled to appear in bond court Friday afternoon. McIntosh, Romero, Bernard and Everhart each face an additional residential burglary charge. And Romero, Bernard and Everhart also are charged with home invasion in connection with their attempt to hide out at the Cicero apartment. |
