A Florida circuit jury found inmate Dwight Eaglin guilty in the bludgeoning murders of a prison officer and an inmate during an escape attempt. Eaglin was charged with first-degree premeditated murder for killing corrections officer Darla Kay Lathrem and inmate Charles Fuston. Lathrem was the only officer supervising a five-man work squad doing dormitory renovations on June 11, 2003, when Eaglin and his two co-defendants are accused of using hammers and screw drivers to beat her to death. His two co-defendants will go on trial within the next four months. Eaglin was already in prison serving a life sentence without parole for stabbing a man to death outside a topless bar. |
