An autopsy required by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has revealed that the death of a Dickson County Jail inmate last month was apparently due to heart problems, officials said last week. “The preliminary autopsy results indicated Jones' death was natural due to heart complications,” Dickson County Sheriff's Det. Andy Davis said. He said toxicology test results are still pending. According to Dickson County Sheriff Tom Wall, 40-year-old Jan Yusk Jones of 259 Aulidge Loop in White Bluff collapsed about 3:45 p.m. Jan. 25 and later died at Horizon Medical Center. CPR was initiated by corrections officers. Jones was booked into the jail Jan. 13 for violation of community corrections, which is an alternative to incarceration. The sheriff said the law requires that the TBI investigate all jail inmate deaths. Jones' brother, Charles, who owns Jones Concrete in Charlotte, said he spoke with Jan a couple days before he died and that he had pneumonia and was on oxygen when he was booked into the jail. Jan had a bad heart as well, his brother said. Jan Jones was originally charged with failure to appear in court, his brother previously said. |
