A worker at the Iowa State Penitentiary was released from the hospital after she was attacked by an inmate, prison officials said late last week. The 64-year-old treatment staff worker was injured by an inmate serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. The inmate was being held in segregation, prison spokesman Ron Welder said. The injured worker was taken to Fort Madison Community Hospital, said Fred Scaletta, a corrections department spokesman. No names were released. Scaletta declined to release details about the attack, saying the Iowa Division of Investigation was investigating. |
