At least 70 inmates escaped from a prison in northern Uganda last week, a senior police official said. The prisoners escaped from the prison near the district town of Apach during breakfast after overcoming officers, the district's police commander, Fred Tayebwa, said. "The prisoners were taking porridge when they made the move. They overcame the warders during breakfast at around 9 am and took off in different directions. They had planned for it and it has nothing to do with the elections. We are re-arresting them and we have so far got about 30," Tayebwa said from Apach town, north of the capital Kampala. |
