Five Australian inmates have received hospital treatment after they were attacked by another prisoner at Hobart's Risdon Jail last week. The incident began when the prisoner threatened other inmates with a number of improvised weapons, including a sharpened pen. Four inmates received minor injuries and were treated at the prison hospital. Another inmate was treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital but has since been returned to the prison. The assistant director of prisons, Greg Partridge, says officers were able to negotiate the release of the wounded men before their attacker was overpowered. |
