Three inmates were injured when another brawl broke out in a jail system wracked by nearly a month of violence, officials said. The latest racial fight erupted about 10 p.m. Monday at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, about 40 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, according to a sheriff's department news release. About 40 black and Latino prisoners squared off in one of the cells of the inmate processing area. Deputies immediately broke up the fracas with verbal commands. One inmate suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital and two others were treated at the facility for minor injuries. Two inmates have been killed and more than 100 injured in a series of fights dating to Feb. 4. Until Monday's incident, the violence had ebbed after sheriff's officials isolated ringleaders, took away inmate privileges and transferred some of the most violent inmates to state prisons. |
