The Maryland state prison at Shirley is in lock-down mode after 200 inmates refused to leave the recreation yard. A Department of Correction spokeswoman says the prisoners never engaged in any violence, and there were no injuries. Diane Wiffin says the inmates refused to leave the yard around 12:30 yesterday afternoon because of complaints they had, which she would not specify. The inmates finally began returning to their cells about 50 minutes later. Wiffin says the prison was locked-down and secured by 4:30 p.m. A special tactical team was on standby during the incident, but was never brought into the prison. |
