A Mississippi inmate was found dead at the Moss Point City Jail on Saturday, city officials said. Jessie Earl Hubbard, 51, died of self-inflicted wounds, said Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus. "There was absolutely no foul play involved," Broadus said. "This was a suicide." Broadus declined to provide further details of Hubbard's injuries. Mayor Xavier Bishop said Hubbard was found in his cell at about noon on Saturday. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been looking into the death. Agents were questioning jail and police officials on Saturday. Moss Point Police Capt. Mark Meiselbach said more information would be released later. It was unclear on Sunday why Hubbard was in custody, officials could not be reached for comment. Hubbard was pronounced dead at 12:17 p.m., Broadus said. |
