| 15 Inmates Hurt in Ceiling Collapse |

Fifteen Pennsylvania inmates were injured, two seriously, when two panels fell from the ceiling in a group shower at a Philadelphia prison, authorities said. Philadelphia Prison System spokesman Robert Eskind said two inmates from the minimum security House of Correction were hospitalized with serious injuries. Thirteen others were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, he said. Two inmates were in the shower area of D the Block when a section of the half-inch-thick cement fiberboard ceiling fell shortly before 2 p.m., Eskind said. A correctional officer and other inmates were trying to help those in the shower area when another ceiling panel fell, he said. The correctional officer sustained minor injuries that Eskind described as muscle strains. |
