The Alabama Supreme Court set execution dates Monday for two death row inmates whose previous execution dates were halted by the U.S. Supreme Court. Gary Leon Brown, convicted in Jefferson County in the 1986 stabbing death of a 60-year-old man who was nearly decapitated during a robbery, was scheduled for execution on April 24th. Brown was slated to die in the electric chair April Fifth, 2002. Two other men were also convicted in the brutal murder of Jack David McGraw of Center Point, who was stabbed 78 times and his throat slashed. The second condemned inmate, Glenn W. Holladay, was given an execution date of May 29th. He was convicted in Etowah County of fatally shooting three people in 1986: his ex-wife, her boyfriend and a 16-year-old neighbor. His first execution date of June 22nd, 2001, was blocked because of court questions over whether he is mentally retarded. Prosecutors and Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor argued that Holladay is not mentally retarded and should be put to death. |
