A rape suspect who escaped from the Geauga County, Ohio jail last week was recaptured. Joseph E. Dowling, 38, of Cleveland, was recaptured Saturday night in Cleveland based on a tip received by city police, Geauga County sheriff's spokesman John Hiscox said. Dowling escaped Monday by climbing a 20-foot brick wall, apparently with help from fellow inmates, according to authorities. He fled in a stolen carpet installer's van found 25 miles away in Cleveland. Dowling was arrested Oct. 31 in Chester Township on a rape charge. He was paroled from state prison in mid-October after serving 11 years for assault and earlier had served four years for a 1984 rape conviction. |
