A disturbance involving about 30 inmates inside a state correctional facility was resolved without injuries on Saturday, a spokesman said. Officials at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City were investigating what caused the 3 p.m. disturbance in one unit of the facility. Facility spokesman Walter Sass said there was significant damage to the unit and officials had no damage estimate late Saturday. No one was taken hostage at any time, he said. It took prison officials about three hours to resolve the situation, Sass said. About 30 of the facility's 1,000 inmates were involved in the disturbance, he said. It was the second incident in a week at the facility. On Wednesday, several inmates were put into isolation after a group of prisoners staged a protest to push for the resolution of seven inmate immigration cases. In that incident, Warden Robert Feneis said the inmates were segregated for inappropriate behavior, including banging on cell bars and causing toilets and sinks to overflow. |
