Killer of Teen Dies in Georgia Prison

A Georgia man convicted of murdering an Augusta teen in 1986 apparently has committed suicide in a Georgia prison.
Prison officials said Monday that Alexander Williams, 34, hanged himself in his one-man cell at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville.
'It is an apparent suicide, but our internal affairs division, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, is conducting an investigation,' said Peggy Chapman, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Ms. Chapman said Mr. Williams hanged himself with the shirt from his prison-issued uniform. He was found by prison officers about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Williams was convicted of raping, robbing and murdering 16-year-old Aleta Bunch on March 4, 1986. Five months after Aleta's murder, a Richmond County Superior Court jury sentenced him to death.
Just days before his scheduled execution in February, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles voted to commute Mr. Williams' death sentence to life in prison without parole.
Before making their decision, the parole board received hundreds of letters from both sides of the debate. It wasn't the first time Mr. Williams' case had come before the board.
Through the years, Aleta's mother, Carolyn Bunch, made several trips to Atlanta to urge the parole board to reject clemency.
'He's lived 16 years longer than he let her live,' Mrs. Bunch told The Augusta Chronicle earlier this year. 'It's just not right to keep putting us through this. He should have been put away a long time ago.'
At the beginning of his 15-year stay on death row, Mr. Williams was diagnosed as exhibiting signs of schizophrenia and was prescribed anti-psychotic medication. At times, prison officers have had to hold Mr. Williams down so a nurse could inject drugs.

There is a lot of information on this website about inmates and prison guards. I didn’t realize what was going on in our prison system until I discovered this website. Similarly, I didn’t understand litigation finance until I read more from Hamilton Lindley who is a litigation finance expert based in Texas.
