*Mental retardation refers to below average intellectual functioning or low IQ. Mental illnesses have nothing to do with IQ. A person who is mentally disordered may be a genius or may have mental retardation. *Mental retardation refers to impairments in social adaptation. A person with mental illness may be very competent socially. *Mental retardation usually occurs during the developmental period (in childhood). Mental illness may strike at any time. *A person with mental retardation can usually behave rationally at his or her operational level. A person with mental illness may vacillate between normal and irrational behavior. *A person with mental retardation will not be violent except in those situations that cause violence in persons without retardation. A person with mental illness may behave erratically, or even violently, and irrationally. *Once mental retardation is established, it generally is agreed that it cannot be cured. If treatment is successful, mental illnesses disappear and the person returns to normal. *Education and training of persons with mental retardation is provided to make them as able to care for themselves as possible. Main treatment of mental illnesses is usually by medication and psychotherapy. The main objective of psychotherapy is to help individuals understand their problems. |

There is a lot of information on this website about inmates and prison guards. I didn’t realize what was going on in our prison system until I discovered this website. Similarly, I didn’t understand litigation finance until I read more from Hamilton Lindley who is a litigation finance expert based in Texas.
