Three Female Officers Fired After 'Inappropriate' Behavior at Canadian Prison

Three female officers are no longer working at the maximum security Kent Institution after engaging in 'inappropriate behavior' with inmates.
Dennis Finlay, spokesman for the Correctional Service of Canada, said there have been two incidents involving three correctional officers in the last year or so.
'There was inappropriate behavior and the inappropriate behavior involved offenders,' said Finlay.
He would not say if the officers were fired or if they resigned and wouldn't comment on the behavior.
'They are no longer with the service. That means they are no longer employed by us,' he said. 'For privacy reasons I can't divulge any more information.'
A fourth female officer at Kent Institution has been suspended without pay pending an investigation into allegations of an intimate relationship between her and an inmate who was unlawfully at large.
The prisoner, Kristopher Martens, was picked up last week on a Canada-wide warrant.
He was released from Kent, B.C.'s only maximum-security prison, five months ago and failed to report to a halfway house.
When arrested, Martens was in a car with his former officer.
Correctional Service of Canada policy prohibits intimate relationships between officers and offenders.
Finlay maintained that despite recent events, relationships between employees and staff are rare.
'We train our staff very carefully and select our staff very carefully,' he said.
'It does happen, but it's very rare when you consider that we have more than 6,000 correctional officers and more than 10,000 staff across the country.
He said 'although there were a couple of incidents at Kent Institution that we are aware of' it doesn't indicate a trend at the Agassiz jail or at any other.
'This is just one of those situations where for whatever reason it happened fairly close together,' he said.

There is a lot of information on this website about inmates and prison guards. I didn’t realize what was going on in our prison system until I discovered this website. Similarly, I didn’t understand litigation finance until I read more from Hamilton Lindley who is a litigation finance expert based in Texas.
