Arizona County Officer Dies During Tactical Training
By Pima County Sheriff's Department
Published: 12/10/2002

The Pima County Sheriff's Department was shocked and saddened by the death of one of our Corrections Officers.
While taking part in a training exercise at the Sheriff's Department training facility on December 5, 2002, Corrections Officer Shannon D. Russell collapsed.
Other Corrections Officers on scene immediately began CPR and continued to render aide until Tucson Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene a short while later and assumed treatment of Officer Russell.
Officer Russell was then transported by ambulance to Kino Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 PM. Officer Shannon Russell was hired by the Sheriff's Department as a Corrections Officer on July 29, 1990.
CO Russell was a 12-year veteran of our Department, a tactical team leader, and he had a passion for training new recruits.
Our fallen brother will be deeply missed.
