Timothy Gregory already faces first-degree murder charges in the death of a Lake Wales man earlier this year. Now authorities say they've uncovered a jailhouse plot, engineered by Gregory, to thwart his trial by killing his wife, who is a witness in the case. Polk County Sheriff's detectives said Gregory offered a fellow inmate $4,600 to arrange the murder of Gregory's wife, Cathy. Detectives charged Gregory, of Lake Wales, with solicitation for first-degree murder. They charged Levesque, also of Lake Wales, with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Gregory, 59, is in jail awaiting trial for first-degree murder and burglary charges. He is charged in the fatal shooting of a Lake Wales man on June 11. According to sheriff's reports, Gregory told authorities he saw the man kissing his wife early that evening. Witnesses saw Gregory enter the man's residence with a gun, heard a shot and then saw Gregory leave with the gun, the report said. He was indicted in June. Officials received a tip about Gregory's planned hit but would not say specifically how. The police report said Gregory contacted his son and daughter-in-law Tammy Gregory and asked whether they would deposit $600 into another inmate's account. The son and daughter-in-law cooperated with authorities to help uncover the plot. |
