A search of the minimum security unit at the state prison turned up a variety of contraband, including a cell phone, drugs and a cooked lobster. The search also turned up at least 191 packs of heroin and razor blades. Richard Ferruccio, president of a union for officers at the state prison, says the November search shows the unit at the Cranston prison needs tighter security. The union blames the contraband on budget cuts, a growing prison population and a new drug policy it says isn't tough enough. Department of Corrections Director A.T. Wall said the contraband found was not surprising. He said a more recent search turned up no drugs. |
