The flight to freedom for an inmate who escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility Tuesday did not last long. Lashawn Williams, 21, was taken into custody Wednesday morning in Topeka, Kan. Williams apparently broke away from a prison work detail Tuesday, stole a city vehicle and escaped, authorities said. An alert motorist spotted a 1999 burgundy Chevrolet van with city license plate number 50072, which Williams was last seen driving. Williams had been serving a 59-month sentence for aggravated robbery and kidnapping in Shawnee County. He had a projected release date of 2005 before the escape. |
