Indiana Woman Accused of Helping Jail Escapees Obtain Guns

A northwest Indiana woman helped two men who had escaped from a Kentucky jail steal guns, some of which the inmates then used during a multistate crime spree, police said.
Tina Severance, 34, of Portage was arrested recently on a charge of aiding in a theft, Michigan City police detective Cpl. Jeff Cuma said.
Police said Severance helped the inmates break into a Michigan City gun collector's house, five days after the they escaped from a jail in Madisonville, Ky.
Severance, who had dated the gun collector, visited his home with another woman, Cuma said. Before the group left, the other woman unlocked the back door so the inmates could enter the house.
The other woman, who also is from northwest Indiana, also is expected to face charges, Cuma said.
One of the stolen guns was recovered after Basham was captured following a police shootout, said Cuma. Police still have not found two of the stolen weapons.
Severance has not told police how she and the escapees knew each other.
The inmates face charges brought by prosecutors who say the pair hopscotched across the country committing crimes following their Nov. 4 escape, including kidnapping a South Carolina woman who remains missing and is believed to be dead.
The men are suspected of abducting a 42-year-old Kentucky man two days after they escaped from the Hopkins County, Ky., jail on Nov. 4. The man was left tied to a tree with duct tape and electrical cord but was able to free himself after struggling for about 14 hours.
One was arrested on Nov. 17 after allegedly trying to hijack a car from a woman and her 15-year-old daughter at an Ashland, Ky., mall. The other was arrested three days later.
