Baltimore police on last week captured two prisoners who escaped from the Nash Correctional Center, North Carolina authorities said. Demetrius Harris, 26, and Danny Richardson, 29, were arrested without resistance at 1 p.m. on a Baltimore city street, according to the N.C. Department of Correction. Harris and Richardson will be returned to North Carolina to face felony escape charges, the department said in a news release. Harris was serving 18 years for a Durham County murder conviction, while Richardson was serving 48 years for rape, kidnapping and burglary convictions in Nash County. The pair scaled two fences topped with razor wire Friday night at the Nashville prison, cutting their hands severely. A third escaped convict was caught between the two fences. Authorities tracked down Harris and Richardson after gathering information and telephone tips. Police also found an abandoned car in Halifax County with the escapees' clothing and bloody bandages inside, department spokesman Keith Acree said. Nash County authorities on Monday charged Garry Richardson, 23, of Hollister, with being an accessory for allegedly transporting and hiding the inmates. Richardson, who is Danny Richardson's cousin, was being held at the Nash County jail Tuesday on a $50,000 secured bond. Tasha Stancil, 22, of Selma, was charged over the weekend for driving the inmates after their escape. Charges may also be pending against other individuals who aided the inmates, the department said. |
