Francis Eugene White, a Pascagoula man who was featured on the television show America's Most Wanted, has lost an appeal of his 20-year sentence for shooting his estranged wife's lover. The state Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld White's May 2001 conviction for aggravated assault. All of White's claims on appeal were rejected. White, 68, was arrested for shooting Bill Ford, 72, three times at the Long Beach home of Carol White in 1996. White was sentenced as a habitual offender, which means he is not eligible for parole. White was arrested the day of the shooting and released on bond. He became a fugitive when he failed to attend a court hearing. He was featured on America's Most Wanted. A phone tip from a viewer led to White's arrest in March 2000 in Lawrenceville, Ga. On Oct. 12, 1996, Ford was alone in Carol White's house waiting for White's daughters to come home from school. A man came to the kitchen door claiming to be a telephone repairman. Once inside, the man fired three shots. Ford survived his injuries. On Dec. 14, 1996, while White was out on bond, Carol White disappeared. Police found her car outside Casino Magic in Biloxi, and hunters in Hancock County found her body on Jan. 1, 1997. She had been shot in the head several times. No arrests have been made in Carol White's murder. |
