A 45-year-old corrections officer accused of throwing an inmate into a wall was charged yesterday in Everett Municipal Court with two counts of simple assault -- a gross misdemeanor. If he is convicted, he could face up to a year in jail and $1,000 in fines. The incident Nov. 21 involved a 22-year-old Everett man who had been booked into the Snohomish County Jail on charges of driving with a suspended license. The inmate reportedly became verbally abusive and unruly in the jail. According to the inmate's complaint, the officer handcuffed him roughly and threw him against a wall. He suffered minor bruises and lacerations. The same officer, whose name was not released yesterday, was involved in a skirmish last year with Daniel Larson, who was convicted in a case involving the strangulation of a Mountlake Terrace mail-order bride. The officer underwent a 'use of force' review on the Larson incident but was not charged. The officer, from Arlington, is on paid administrative leave pending trial and an internal investigation. |
