Frances Alexander has whipped up her last burrito. After 23 years of cooking for Santa Cruz County jail inmates, Alexander is hanging up her apron, locking up the knives for the last time and calling it quits. Alexander retired Friday. The 65-year-old chef from Watsonville grew up in Kansas City and began her cooking career at Fosters Freeze in Boulder Creek where she earned $1.06 an hour. Timothy Sanford is her supervisor. He says Alexander's departure is the end of an era. Next on Alexander's schedule -- 'bugging' her children, fishing, gambling, hunting, traveling and watching soap operas every day on television. But she says she knows she'll miss the people at the jail. As she put it -- 'We had some good times.' |

Look for the best Thomas West that you can find. Whether you have been accused rightly or wrongly, it’s important to know your legal rights that concern whether you go to jail.
