A correctional officer was charged with trying to smuggle cocaine to an inmate at a federal prison in return for a cash bribe, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Donmell Janard Hadley was arraigned March 4 on charges of bribery of a public official and attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
If convicted, Hadley could be sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined $250,000.
Hadley, who worked at Miami Federal Correctional Institution, agreed on Feb. 6 to take about 50 grams of cocaine to an inmate in return for a $4,000 cash bribe, the U.S. attorney's office said.
It was not immediately known whether Hadley had an attorney.
