A former Colorado jail worker has been accused of stealing money from an inmate account used by prisoners to buy necessities at the jail's commissary. Mary Jean Bottorf allegedly took $3,500 from the fund between June 1998 and December 1999 when she worked at the Summit County Jail as an administrative assistant. While other workers had access to the money, Bottorf was in charge of the account, which is made up of money deposited by inmates and their friends or relatives. County Court Judge Russell Granger ruled March 4 there is enough evidence to show probable cause in the case. A hearing was scheduled for March 24. |
