An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail was charged with assault and wanton endangerment after he allegedly knocked a corrections officer to the ground and began hitting him. Curtis W. Moorman, 18, became combative with officers February 24, according to an account of the incident filed in Jefferson District Court. Moorman knocked an officer off his feet, causing his head to hit a fingerprinting machine and then the concrete floor, the complaint says. The citation accuses Moorman of using his elbow to hit the officer, Roy Pridgen, in the chest once Moorman saw that Pridgen was unconscious. Pridgen was treated at Jewish Hospital and released, according to court records and jail spokeswoman Rindy Russell. Moorman is scheduled to be arraigned in District Court this morning, said Debbie Linnig Michals, spokeswoman for the Jefferson Circuit Court clerk's office. According to Russell, Moorman was being loud and disruptive while using a telephone in a booking area. He was ordered to hang up. When another officer attempted to restrain Moorman, he became defensive and Pridgen came to assist. Records show Moorman has three other cases pending in District Court. In one, he is charged with fourth degree assault based on accusations that he struck an inmate repeatedly on Jan. 27, causing minor injuries. In another case, Louisville Metro Police arrested Moorman on Jan. 9 at his home in the 4000 block of West Broadway and charged him with two counts of wanton endangerment and one count each of assault and robbery. A complaint in Jefferson District Court said that on Jan. 6, a shot was fired that hit a police car. Police said that Moorman was identified as the assailant and that a witness gave a taped statement. The complaint also says that Moorman admitted to being at the scene of a shooting and robbery on July 3 at 34th Street and Broadway. The third case stems from an Oct. 1 arrest during which Moorman was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, reckless driving and having no operator's license. |
