Hendrix was an inmate at the New Mexico Women's Correctional Facility in Grants. A correctional officer found Hendrix to be unresponsive and outside paramedics were called. Hendrix was transported to Cibola General and later pronounced dead. Hendrix was serving a 6- year sentence for drug-related convictions, from Dona Ana County. She began serving her sentence April 20, 2001. New Mexico State Police were called in to investigate. No signs of foul play were found. Other inmates have indicated that Hendrix was complaining of chest pains last night. The New Mexico Office of Medical Investigators will perform a routine autopsy on Hendrix, standard operating procedure for New Mexico Corrections Department inmates who expire while in state custody. The preliminary determination is that Hendrix died of natural causes. At 6:47 on February 22, inmate Richard Larson, 70, was pronounced dead at the Long-term care unit at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Larson was serving a 44- year sentence from Chaves County for first degree criminal sexual penetration. Larson began serving his sentence in 1987. Larson had a number of serious health problems. The preliminary determination is that Larson died of natural causes. His body will be sent to the Office of Medical Investigators for a routine autopsy. |
