Montgomery County corrections officials will be called before a County Council committee later this month to explain how some jail inmates were mistakenly released. Council member Phil Andrews tells The Washington Post that he will convene a special meeting of the Public Safety Committee on March 24th. Council President Michael Subin calls it an inexcusable error. Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan is also upset that he wasn't informed about the releases. Records show that five inmates were discharged by mistake last year. Correction and Rehabilitation Director Arthur Wallenstein says there's no cause for alarm because every inmate was recaptured within a few days and none was believed to have committed crimes while out of jail. |
