The lead warden for the Connecticut Department of Correction has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into his conduct. The Correction Department placed Michael Donahue on leave March 13. Officials declined to say what exactly was being investigated. ''In an effort to preserve the integrity of the investigation, Donahue was placed on leave today as he is a high-ranking official in our agency,'' said Christina Polce, a Correction Department spokeswoman. The Hartford Courant, citing sources within in the agency whom it did not identify, said the probe is into sexual harassment accusations against Donahue. Donahue, a former legislative liaison for former Correction Commissioner John Armstrong, runs the state prison facilities in Cheshire. Donahue's leave came two days after Armstrong stepped down and Deputy Commissioner Theresa C. Lantz was appointed acting commissioner of the department. Donahue defended Armstrong in October before the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, which was investigating the department's handling of sexual harassment complaints. The commission, in a report released last week, said sexual harassment was a pervasive problem in the Correction Department, and it recommended a host of changes in the agency. |
