'Dangerous' Georgia Escapee Recaptured

A manhunt for a murder suspect who escaped from the Ware County jail before dawn March 20 is back behind bars after police got a tip early Sunday morning from a clerk at a truck stop barely five miles from the prison.
James Moody II, 24, is accused of killing two people in southeast Georgia last May. He and another inmate -- Cecil Albritton, 27 -- escaped through an exterior window in their cell shortly before 3:35 a.m., according to the Ware County Sheriff's Office. They apparently cut through a window using a hacksaw blade that was smuggled into the jail, knocked out the window, then used a mattress to scale the razor wire surrounding the jail.
The two were wearing jail uniforms of a white T-shirt and orange pants when they escaped. Albritton was quickly recaptured without resistance at a Waycross home.
Moody was recaptured early Sunday morning after a clerk at the Z-Way Truck Stop on South Georgia Parkway called 911 to report a suspicious male possibly matching Moody's description had entered the store.
Ware, Pierce and Brantley county sheriff's offices, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Ware State Prison all responded and established a perimeter and roadblocks on South Georgia Parkway.
Tracking dogs from Ware State Prison successfully found Moody a short distance from the truck stop, still wearing his prison uniform of orange pants and a white T-shirt. He was unarmed, but had numerous scratches and mosquito bites.
Police had search the wooded area where Moody was captured by air, foot and with 4-wheel-drive vehicles, and believe that the heavy law enforcement presence in the area kept Moody from leaving the area.
Ware County Sheriff Ronnie McQuaig says another inmate, his wife and Moody's father were arrested Friday for aiding in Moody's escape. The hacksaw blade was allegedly provided by Moody's father and smuggled into the prison in a shoe.
Moody and his friend Tabatha Colson, 23, were arrested and awaiting trial for the murder of Blackshear boat dealer Kenneth Steve Davis, 51, and Pierce County High School junior Louis Richard Sheffield, 17.
McQuaig said that a complete review of jail procedures will be conducted and improvements in facility security will be made. McQuaig also said that disciplinary action will be taken against any employee found to be negligent.
